Keeping your pet’s teeth clean is highly overlooked by pet owners. Many people have trouble brushing their pet’s teeth at home, so they just simply don’t do it. Because our pets don’t brush their teeth every night before bed like we do, tartar build-up can occur. Animal Crossing provides advanced veterinary dentistry services in addition to basic dental care. This includes routine oral check-ups, cleaning & polishing, teeth extractions, and the treatment of more complicated conditions. In order to help maintain the health of your pet’s mouth and teeth, you should bring your pet in for a dental check-up once a year.

Tarter removal is a procedure in which we perform dental scaling. We use an ultrasonic power scalers, along with hand-held instruments to remove tarter. Not only is tarter found on the surface of the tooth, but above and below the gum line as well.

Tooth extraction is a very common procedure that is done at Animal Crossing. We strive to keep as many teeth as possible in your baby’s mouth. Sometimes extracting a tooth is the only option to relive pain as well as ensure periodontal disease doesn’t further advance. If a diseased tooth is not extracted, it can affect the surrounding tissue and neighboring teeth. Different treatment options are available if periodontal disease is caught early.

Animal Crossing does require anesthesia for dental procedures. If your dog/cat is over 8 years of age, we do require pre-surgical blood work. This is just to ensure that your fur baby will be able to handle the anesthesia during the procedure. Inside the mouth, we utilize anesthetic gel and local anesthetic injections to reduce pain. We closely monitor your pet the entire time they are under as well as after the entire procedure is done.

Catching dental problems in the early stages can greatly help your pet in the long run. Make an appointment if your pet experiences any of the following:

  • Chronic bad breath
  • Your pet shies away when you try to touch their mouth area
  • Excessive drool
  • Dropping food when eating
  • Bleeding in your pet’s mouth
  • Loss of appetite or weight loss
  • Yellowish brown crust of tartar around the gum line
  • Missing, loose or broken teeth

Digital Radiology

Digital radiology gives Animal Crossing the ability to diagnose conditions almost on the spot. This allows for conditions to be treated faster and more effectively.

With today’s most current digital radiography, our practice takes the x-ray image on advanced machinery which sends it directly to digital x-ray sensors for storage and display on a computer. The wait is short and there is no need for films to be processed at a separate lab. We can also share the image digitally in the case that we would ever need to send them to a specialist for you, or even just to your email.

Our hospital can easily enhance the digital x-ray image on the computer by zooming in or out, changing the contrast, or turning brightness up or down for better viewing. Digital x-ray technology creates a clear detailed image.

Animal Crossing uses digital radiology for your pet’s entire body. Digital x-rays can help us identify a fractured bone, or degeneration in a joint as well as sometimes identify foreign objects inside your pet’s body.

Pain Management

When it comes to managing your pet’s aches and pains, Animal Crossing offers the highest quality of care. We demonstrate compassion and provide the most effective medical treatments available. To best serve the individual needs of your pet, we develop a unique pain management plan made specifically for your loved one.

Pets often share traits in common with their humans like soreness or an achy hip. Animals also share the way they experience pain. Therefore, you may recognize some medications, techniques and care for animal pain that your own doctor similarly prescribed for you. However, it is very important to note that you should never give your pet medication designed for a human unless first consulting with a veterinarian. Many medications designed for humans can cause life-threatening and irreversible reactions in animals. Medications should be kept out of reach of your pet.

We may advise that your pet make some lifestyle changes. A specific diet, soft bedding, a few more rounds of fetch, raised food and water dishes or an extra snuggle now and then are just some of the things that may ease your pet’s pain at home.

The first step to identifying the cause, is to determine whether your pet’s pain is acute or chronic. Acute pain is often sudden and triggered by a specific event. Examples are if your pet has a recent injury, they may experience acute pain. However, chronic pain persists over time, and some causes may include conditions such as joint inflammation, arthritis, or unattended tooth decay.

Early intervention is important when it comes to managing your pet’s pain. Some common signs of pain in your pet may include:

  • Limping
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and / or vomiting
  • Vocalization
  • Change in temperament or behavior
  • Licking a specific area
  • Change in bathroom habits
  • Panting
  • Hiding
